1. Tuesday, June 14 afternoon we are at Helen Schuler. We leave at 12:45 and our program runs from 1-2:30.
2. Friday is our Father’s Day celebration. Dads, please be in our classroom a few minutes before 11. We will perform at 11 and then take you outside to play (weather permitting!) Please don’t forget to come back to our classroom before you go home to pick up your gifts!
3. Tuesday, June 21 is K-2 Sports Day. We have an afternoon volunteer but still need at least one for the morning. Please let me know if you can help us out.
4. Wednesday, June 22 is the West Side pow wow at Nicholas Sheran park. We have three walkers now – thanks to Mrs. Fletcher, Mrs. deBoer and Mrs. Baker!
5. Thursday, June 23 is the grade one year end family picnic at Nicholas Sheran park. Further forms to follow on Thursday.
6. If your child will not be here right until the 28th, please let me know asap so I can ensure you get their supplies and report card.

Phew! We have 10 ½ days of school left (and two of those are Fridays), and at least 3 ½ of them are filled with activities, so the crunch is on! We are 99% done our curriculum and things will start to come home soon so you don’t have to handle it all on the 28th.

If things come home unfinished, you do not need to complete them at home and return them. Feel free to work on them for extra practice, but some things were just extra from the days when we had a sub and other things we ended up doing on the smartboard rather than on paper.

In addition to these school wide activities, our class has a lot more going on!

Wednesday morning we are off to the Galt on a bus. Thank you to the parents of Ivy, Ceili, Max and Kieran who will meet us at the Galt at 9:30 to help us.

Thursday afternoon is our Mother’s Day Spa. Moms (or another special female) please meet in our classroom at 2:35 pm for a short performance followed by a (hopefully) relaxing experience with your child! We will wrap it up around 3:20 so we can clean up before dismissal.

Friday morning we are swimming! Thank you to the parents of Jaret, Gracie, Kieran, Reece, Justin, Ceili, Matt and Aylee who have volunteered to drive (a couple of our swimming parents could meet us there if you prefer – just email me so I can coordinate) and also to Reese & Georgia’s dads who are meeting us there to swim! We will leave at 9:45 and will be int he pool from 10:00 – 11:10 to return in time for lunch dismissal.

As you know a massive Garage Sale is scheduled to take place Saturday May 28th at the Exhibition Pavilion from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. This event has been organized to raise funds to replace the existing wooden playground structure at our school.

You can drop your well cared for items off in the foyer of the school under the playground bulletin board up until Thursday May 26th. Please label you bags/boxes with your child’s homeroom so they can be set up on the right tables.

Organizers are in need of your help- sign up sheets are outside of every classroom – please have a look and see if there is anything you can help with or e-mail Stacy. Jobs include setting up the day before, working a shift with your child the day of, and cleanup after the sale. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Finally, check out the AMAZING Raffle and Silent Auction items that have been donated by our local businesses on our school website!

Ingredients:
• 3 cups warm water
• 9 tablespoons warm water
• 1 cup canola oil
• 3/4 cup sugar or 3/4 cup honey
• 6 tablespoons yeast
• 3 teaspoons salt
• 3 eggs, beaten
• 10 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
Canola oil spray

Makes 25 buns

Directions:

Prep Time: 20 mins
Total Time: 30 mins

1. Combine water, yeast, oil and sugar or honey; let rest for 15 minutes.
2. Add salt, egg, and flour to yeast mixture and mix well.
3. Roll out 3/4 inch thick and cut into even chunks for each child. They can each form them into rolls of whatever shape they like. Coat buns lightly with oil.
4. Place rolls on cookie sheet sprayed with nonstick cooking spray or smeared lightly with oil. Cover with a lightly dampened dish towel for 30-45 minutes or until risen.
5. Bake at 400-425 for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned.
Be careful not to overbake or they will be too dry. Every oven is different.

I am so excited to be joining your children in Mrs. Baker’s classroom and getting to know them all!

My name is Jessica Valkenburg (known to your children as “Miss. V.”) I am a PS2 student from the University of Lethbridge and will be with your children in their classroom for the next six weeks. I have completed my English degree and am now completing my Education after-degree. I have previous experience working and volunteering with elementary age children and enjoy it immensely! It is my goal to become an elementary school teacher once I have completed my practicum experiences.
